7 Leave No Trace Principles for a Fun and Sustainable Outdoor Adventure

The world around us is awaking from its winter slumber and days are growing longer. It is time to get out and explore our great outdoors. Whether you're going for a hike, camping, or just a picnic in the park, it's important to follow the Leave No Trace principles to ensure that our beautiful natural spaces remain pristine for generations to come.

But let's be honest, sometimes "being environmentally conscious" can sound a little boring. But fear not! The Leave No Trace principles are actually pretty easy and fun to follow, and will make your outdoor experience even more enjoyable.

Here are the 7 Leave No Trace principles, make sure to share them with your friends and family:

1. Plan ahead and prepare.

Before you head out, make sure you have everything you need and know what you're getting into. Check the weather forecast, bring plenty of water, and pack a snack or two. Bonus points if your snack packaging is reusable or compostable!

2. Travel and camp on durable surfaces.

Stick to established trails and camp in designated areas. This will help prevent damage to delicate ecosystems and keep you on the right path. Plus, you'll avoid getting lost, which is always a plus.

3. Dispose of waste properly.

Pack it in, pack it out. That means everything from food scraps to toilet paper. Nobody wants to come across your mess, and the wildlife definitely doesn't want to eat it.

4. Leave what you find.

Don't pick wildflowers, take rocks or artifacts, or disturb wildlife. You'll leave the area looking just as beautiful as you found it, and the animals will thank you for not messing with their homes.

5. Minimize campfire impact.

If fires are allowed, use a designated fire ring or stove. Keep the fire small, and make sure it's completely extinguished before you leave. Nothing ruins a pristine wilderness like a smoky, sooty fire pit.

6. Respect wildlife.

Observe from a distance, don't feed the animals, and secure your food and trash to keep critters from becoming habituated to people. Trust us, you don't want to be responsible for a wild animal becoming a nuisance (or worse).

7. Be considerate of other visitors.

Keep noise levels down, especially early in the morning or late at night. Yelling, playing loud music, or allowing your pets to bark can ruin someone else's peaceful wilderness experience.

Following these 7 Leave No Trace principles will not only help preserve the natural environment for future generations, but it will also make your outdoor experience even more enjoyable. So pack your backpack, grab your friends, and hit the trails with a light heart and a love for nature. For more details on these principles visit Leave No Trace and enjoy watching this video.

Happy adventuring!
